Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful details about donations, applications, fostering, and more.

  • We accept the following donations:

    • certain food (the brands we use are on our Chewy and Amazon wish lists)

    • high quality treats (no rawhide, please)

    • new/gently used toys

    • clean, gently used towels and flat sheets (occasionally we have an abundance of these and are not in need and have limited storage space)

    • kennels in good condition

    • paper towels

    • disinfectant wipes

    • clean, gently used or new dog beds and crate mats

Feel free to email us at luckymuttrescuecypress@gmail.com to see if we can accept a certain donation. We can also provide instructions for drop-off.

We always welcome monetary donations to help pay for needed supplies and vet bills!

  • Unfortunately, we cannot respond to every application we receive.  We do keep apps on file so if you see another dog you’re interested in, you can email us and let us know.

We review applications and try to match dogs to the home/family that is the best fit for all.  Being the first application we receive is not relevant.  Additionally, with limited medical exceptions, for your application to be considered, we require all resident dogs to be altered and current on vaccines and prevention.

  • We ask that you provide a safe, loving environment for the animal in need.  We also ask that you are available to take the dog to vet appointments at our approved vets but can make accommodations if necessary.  Most fosters provide food, toys, etc., but we can provide supplies if needed.  We also typically ask that you foster until adoption—we are all volunteers and have time constraints & commitments, so when fosters are not committed long term, it adds unnecessary burdens to our plates.

For more info, please visit our Foster page.

  • One of the most powerful things you can do is follow our Facebook Page.

    From there, you can:

    • Share our adoptable pups!

    • Keep an eye out for transport requests. (We often need doggie “Ubers” for vet visits, etc.)

    • Volunteer at our in-person events. (We typically have 2 big Houston events annually.)

    • Spread the word about CLMR and rescue dogs.

  • Rehoming adult dogs is very difficult and stretches our resources even thinner, affecting our ability to help other animals in need.

First, please ask yourself: Have I done everything I can do to make the situation work?

Reach out to your case manager (the person you communicated with when adopting your Lucky Mutt).  If you cannot find that information, please send us an email and provide as much information as possible: why rehoming is necessary, pictures of the dog, any behavioral issues, etc.  We make every effort to help when possible.

  • Send us an email with any information about the dog (gender, disposition, known health status, whether altered or not, dog friendly, etc.), clear pictures of the dog, and indicate willingness to foster until the dog is adopted.

Please note we are a foster based rescue and have limitations on our ability to help.  Offering to foster makes it much easier for us to offer help. Unfortunately, we are unable to answer every email we receive.

  • We can offer information on low cost spay and neuter clinics, vouchers, and other available community outreach options.  Depending on circumstances, we may be able to offer help in this area as well. Please reach out to us at luckymuttrescuecypress@gmail.com for more information.
